Ewing Wallace Cartwright, Shelbyville City Mayor



Mayor Ewing Wallace Cartwright
 was elected Mayor in 2006, re-elected in 2010, and re-elected to a third term in 2014.  He is a native of Shelbyville and Bedford County and graduated from Shelbyville Central High School in 1954. Mayor Cartwright attended Middle Tennessee State College (now MTSU), as well as taking courses in real estate at Motlow State Community College.

As Mayor, Mr. Cartwright presides at all meetings of the City Council, and performs other duties consistent with the City Charter.

Mayor Cartwright was a partner in Ewing F. Cartwright & Son, General Contractors from 1956-1980, also working from 1970-1972 as a sales representative for Gold Bond Building Products, a division of National Gypsum Company.
He has been employed in construction or related fields for over 52 years.

Mayor Cartwright has been married for 52 years to Martha Gene Trolinger Cartwright. They have three daughters, Cindy, Debbie, and Angela, six grandchildren, two great grandsons, seven step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.  He is
a member of Fair Haven Baptist Church.
