The Planning Division consists of one full time planner working to
promote the orderly development of the City and to maintain a high
quality, community-first environment consistent with applicable State
laws and the goals, policies, objectives and program of the
Comprehensive Plan and Shelbyville Municipal Code. In addition to
supporting the Boards below, Planning also evaluates applications for
Home Based Businesses, Zoning Verification letters, and Accessory
Building applications.
Planning Commission Support
The Planning Department provides comprehensive staff support to the Planning
Commission, which includes staff reports, legal noticing, preparation of
meeting minutes, and scheduling of meetings.
Board of Zoning Appeals Support
The Planning Department evaluates all applications for variances,
administrative reviews, and special exceptions that are submitted for
review by the
Board of Zoning Appeals.
Historic Zoning Commission Support
The Planning Department assists the Historic Zoning
Commission in the evaluation of applications for local landmark designation
status, zoning map amendments, and Certificates of Appropriateness.
Development
and Subdivision Review
The Planning and
Community Development Department reviews all zoning and
subdivision applications for compliance with the
Comprehensive Plan, Municipal Code and community
expectations. The Department works closely with
property owners, developers and consultants during
the review phase to ensure timely, efficient and thorough
review.

City’s Municipal Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations.
