Brush Collection
In addition to the weekly trash cart collection service, the city provides once a month collection of brush, limbs, or branches.
The brush collection program is NOT for the removal of trees or brush cut from:
- Commercial tree contractors or landscapers.
- Lot clearances, excavation projects, or other demolition projects.
The brush and tree collection program is for the removal of routine yard clippings and tree trimmings from residences within City limits.
- Pick up is scheduled for the first full week of every month Monday through Thursday on your garbage pick-up day.
- Place brush piles neatly curbside by 6:00am on your scheduled pickup day.
- DO NOT place brush curbside any earlier than 1 week prior to the scheduled pick-up week.
- Brush cannot be mixed with other material, such as household trash, furniture, or construction material.
- KEEP ALL BRUSH clear from any obstructions such as fire hydrants, Mailboxes, etc.
- Brush or trees must be cut in lengths of 6 feet or less.
- Leaves, grass clippings, and mulch must be bagged.
- Public Works recommends biodegradable bags for leaves and grass clippings for fastest leaf collection.
- Bagged leaves are picked up year-round.
- Please see calendar for scheduled brush collection weeks.
- Any brush not collected during monthly brush collection can be disposed of at the City of Shelbyville Burn Pit.

Loose Leaves
Loose leaf collection will take place from the months of November through January.
- Place leaves in the grass strip area along the curb If no grass strip area is present, place the leaves as close to the street as possible.
- Place piles at least ten feet (10') between your mailbox or any other objects such as vehicles, Fire Hydrant, and any other Obstructions.
- Do not place leaves within five feet (5') of any stormwater structure.
- Please keep your curb and gutter free of any leaves and debris.
- Please ensure that your pile of leaves is free of any debris, sticks, rocks, bricks, etc.
- Leaves, grass clippings, and mulch placed in bags are preferred.
- Public Works recommends biodegradable bags for leaves and grass clippings for fastest leaf collection.
- Bagged leaves are picked up year-round.
- Any loose leaves not picked up during leaf collection can be placed in a bag and disposed of at The City of Shelbyville Transfer Station.
